Description

In modern commercial organic fertilizer production lines, compound fertilizer production lines, and NPK compound fertilizer production lines, maintaining high throughput and rotation stability is vital to granule quality. A gear drum granulator is a specialized wet-tumbling granulation machine driven by a heavy-duty gear system. It agglomerates powdery or semi-wet fertilizer raw materials into uniform spherical or oval granules through continuous mechanical rotation and liquid spraying.

As a leading organic fertilizer equipment manufacturer and compound fertilizer equipment manufacturer, Taian Hongxin Environmental Protection Equipment Co., Ltd. delivers high-efficiency organic fertilizer granulators and fertilizer granulating equipment as part of our complete fertilizer processing machinery solutions worldwide.

I. 5 Core Component Assemblies of the Gear Drum Granulator

  1. Gear Transmission System: Consists of an electric motor, speed reducer, and gear pair (pinion gear + large drum ring gear). Unlike chain-driven models, gear drive delivers higher torque and extremely stable speeds (10–20 rpm), preventing granule size irregularities caused by speed fluctuations.

  2. Inclined Rotating Drum: Mounted horizontally at a 3°–5° incline, featuring internal wear-resistant lifting plates (flights) that lift and cascade materials to promote continuous tumbling and collision.

  3. Feeding & Liquid Spray System: Screw or belt conveyors supply feed powder evenly, while high-pressure nozzles spray water or liquid binders (humic acid, starch slurry) to keep moisture levels at an optimal 25%–35%.

  4. Heavy-Duty Support & Seals: Precision roller supports bear total drum weight, while inlet/outlet seals eliminate dust emissions for an eco-friendly workshop environment.

  5. Discharge Assembly: Collects wet granules at the lower outlet and transfers them to downstream rotary dryers and coolers for curing.

II. 4-Stage Granulation Working Principle

  • Stage 1: Feeding & Uniform Blending

Powdered raw materials enter the drum and mix thoroughly under rotation and flight action while atomized binder adjusts moisture content.

  • Stage 2: Collision & Seed Nucleation

Fine particles collide repeatedly as they roll, forming small "seed nuclei." Constant drum speed ensured by the gear system guarantees uniform density across initial seeds.

  • Stage 3: Snowballing Granule Growth

Seed nuclei tumble continuously, gathering loose powder like a "snowball" to form spherical or oval granules ranging from 2 to 6 mm in diameter.

  • Stage 4: Continuous Discharge

Qualified granules move along the drum's incline toward the lower discharge chute, achieving a continuous balling rate of 70% to 85%.

III. Key Advantages of Gear Drum Granulators

  • High Single-Machine Capacity: Drums up to 1.2–2.5m in diameter process 5 to 50 tons per hour, perfectly meeting the demands of large-scale fertilizer factories.

  • Uniform Granule Shape & Size: Smooth gear drive eliminates speed jerks, producing spherical granules with narrow particle size distribution (80%–90% qualified rate).

  • Broad Material Compatibility: Easily handles decomposed poultry/livestock manure, straw powder, humic acid blends, and NPK raw materials.

  • Durable Construction & Low Maintenance: Heavy-gauge steel shells, Mn13 wear-resistant lifting plates, and sealed gears ensure a long service life with minimal maintenance downtime.

IV. Ideal Application Scenarios

  • Medium-to-Large Fertilizer Plants: Operating continuously at 50+ tons per day in integrated fertilizer production lines.

  • Processing Low-to-Medium Viscosity Powders: Ideal for decomposed organic powders and NPK chemical blends.

  • High-End Bagged Fertilizer Manufacturing: Perfect for commercial organic fertilizers requiring superior granule appearance and flowability.
